It is often said that Hawaii is a paradise island because of the climate, the exotic ambiance and the friendly people. The cost of living maybe higher than in the mainland, but there are fewer needs to fill. No winter clothes to buy, no heating, lower taxes. Life moves at a more leisurely pace. The culture is diverse and rich. Learning and living a fuller life in this part of paradise goes hand in hand. What more can you ask for?

You said all the tourists' ideas fed by drumbeaters about Hawaii. It is a paradise for those who want to take a vacation. But if you are going to relocate and work in Hawaii, there are many things that you should consider, like:
1. The diverse culture that takes some getting used to.
2. If you have children, education is not cheap in Hawaii.
3.  Amenities like transportation, phones, hospitals, malls that are abundant in the mainland are not available in all islands.
4. The high cost of living and housing.

Once you learn to accept these things and learn to live with them, Hawaii is a true paradise.

Alienator, you said in number two that education is not cheap. Do they not have public schools in Hawaii too? Or are you talking about colleges?

I am talking about private schools in Hawaii.

There are 258 public schools in Hawaii. However, students from these public schools scored low in the "Nation's Report Card" with just 21 percent of the eighth graders considered proficient in math and 20 percent proficient in reading. So it's better to get your kids into private schools. There are however, some public schools that do better than the rest.

So it seems that Hawaii`s schools are about the same as ours. Some are good and others are not. Do you know how much more expensive it is for a private school in Hawaii versus say, Florida or one of the other states? I know here in Florida they are pretty expensive too.  I`ll have to do some checking online to see what the costs are. I think kids do better in private schools anyway, no matter where they live don`t you?

Did you know that Hawaii is an archipelago and has 8 main islands? The main islands are : Hawai'i, Maui, Kaho'olawe, Lana'i, O'ahu, Kaua'i and Ni'ihau. It is the only state of the United States that is not geographically located in North America and has its own royal palace. Hawaii has two official languages: English and Hawaiian.

Since you can`t drive to Hawaii, if you want to move there does anyone know how much it would cost to send everything by mail or UPS? And what about your car? I know there are places that ship your car for you, but at what cost?
