I am a 53-year old Human Resources Generalist from the Philippines. I would like to relocate to one of the islands in Hawaii. What are the chances for getting an HR Generalist job in Hawaii with a sponsorship for relocation and what are the prospects for accommodation?

Chances of landing an HR Generalist job in Hawaii (not necessarily in Honolulu but also in other islands) is good. There are more Filipinos in the multi-racial population so there would be less cultural adjustment. Job requirements include knowledge in compensation, labor relations, workers, and benefits management, legal expertise—coursework in labor law, collective bargaining, labor economics, labor history, and industrial psychology. Working knowledge of Human Resources related federal and state laws/regulations (e.g., TDI, FMLA, etc.) and strategies.

Sponsorship depends on the company that would accept your application and prospects for accommodation is good.

I found a listing of 228 jobs at Jobs.com. Most of them are in Honolulu. From executives to bus drivers, cashiers, building maintenance, and mechanics. It looked like most of the jobs they have listed are more on the professional side requiring experience. Not very many minimum wage type jobs. But that`s just on one site too.

For HR Generalist jobs in Honolulu, as in other states of the US, knowledge of the existing laws on employment is necessary as well as the common HR practices and methods. It would also be an advantage if you got membership in HR Associations like HRSM and skills certifications from organizations like HRCI.

It's much easier if you worked for a big multinational firm back in the Philippines, especially if it's an American conglomerate. I'm sure they'll have a branches in major cities across the globe , more so within US.

You could get yourself assigned there, if your qualified. That's what my son did. When he got promoted he asked his boss if by any chance he could get assigned in the US. That happened just after a year of his promotion.

Plumeria is 53-years old, will she be competing younger applicants? I know that she has more to offer because of her experience but will companies get younger applicants? I don't know much about HR jobs so I'm asking this. The answer would help me as well because I'm trying to look for a computer-related job on this island.

How often do companies offer sponsorship? I'm moving from within the US but if there options for relocation assistance then I would love to know more about them.
