By the time I am ready to retire I might be okay with a cold chill. Smiley When my (now ex) and I were invited to Lihue for his mothers (second) wedding I was amazed and I think this is when I actually fell in love with the idea of moving. The temp's are okay, the rain is tolerable and everything around is just an amazing view. If I am lucky I can get a penthouse!

Cheesy Well good luck to you and your lover. Smiley Hopefully by the time you retire you will have earned enough for it to do anything you want and buy that huge penthouse! Smiley

Kauai is one of the most fabulous places on the Hawaiian islands.  You can go from the beauty of the beaches to the wettest spot on Earth, Mt. Wai'ale'ale.  I have always found the people on the island very friendly and I don't think anyone choosing to live here would be disappointed.

I can definitely see why you would like to move to Lihue.  It is absolutely gorgeous there and the weather seems to be near perfect.

Weather may be nice and all but the economy there and employment rate is not.  Compared to the rest of the country, Lihue's cost of living is 49.60% Higher than the U.S. average and unemployment rate is 9% with no job growth.. If you plan to move here make sure you already have a job lined up for you.. Good Luck Smiley

Oh boy Jenny you make Lihue sound so bad!  Economy is bad everywhere in general. We are all suffering from this financial crisis.  I live in New Jersey and I am lucky to have a full time job, my boyfriend NOT so lucky!  He works in the IT field and was recently let go, he is now having a hard time finding a job that will pay him anywhere near his last salary.    He is now gonna try his luck in Hawaii and I will be going with him--  I am positive we will do alright.  I speak two languages and will be looking for work in the travel/hotel industry. I am realistic and understand that it will be a struggle at first but we have both decided to give it a try!
