What are some of the special aspects about Kailua?  For example, are there any national parks or historic places?  What is the population of Kailua?

As of 2010 total population for Kailua was 36,513.

There is so much to see or do in Kailua, Im sure you already know Hawaii has some beautiful beaches so of course I have to mention Lanikai and Kailua Beaches are a must see.  Kailua beach has been voted the Best Beach in America in several different surveys, with its soft white warm sand and clear turquoise water that remains warm all year round and an amazing 3 mile walking stretch being here its a dream come true.

If you are into wind surfing, Kayaking, snorkeling or swimming you can test the waters of Kailua Bay.  Kailua is also sorrounded by some of the most beautiful hiking trails in the state, and many amazing historical sites and miles of bike paths in and around Kailua to provide you with up close and personal viewing of Kailua’s year round beauty.

If you are up for some excitement to do something different book a Kailua adventure tour from kayak surfing to scuba diving.

If you don't have much time to stay in the island and you want to see as much as possible in Kailua I recommend Segway of Hawaii-Kailua - with an eco-friendly guided tour you get to explore beachparks, shops, historic sites, and wildlife santuaries. You can check out the info at  www.segwayofhawaii-kailua.com.

The area was the residence of the Hawaiian king Kamehameha !.  This king made Kailua his official capital in the 19th century.

The western coast of the island of Hawaii is known as Kona, and Kailua is its largest town and hence the name Kailua-Kona for the whole region.
