Kakaako Real Estate
Kakaako's residential area is made up of many spread out condos set amongst well aged industrial structures and undeveloped land. However the Hawaii Community Development Authority has just started to plan for a 600 acre district that is aimed at creating a vibrant new neighborhood and creating a socially and economically stable community. Thanks to assistance from both the government and members of the private sector, HCDA, (the Hawaii Community Development Center,) is hoping to breathe new life into Kakaako with more residential accommodation, new parks and recreational venues. This redeveloped community places high value on being environmentally sound, as well as being pedestrian friendly. While waiting for the master plan to be finished, locals of Kakaako are still able to enjoy such fabulous recreational activities as Kewalo Basin Park and Kakaako Waterfront Park. Kewalo Basin is actually a harborage, situated across from a park that is a favorite among surfers, divers, fishing enthusiasts, swimmers and those who like to walk or jog to stay fit. The Kakaako Waterfront is 30 acres large and has plenty of green, grassy hills surrounding an ocean side promenade, full of picnic tables. Over the road from this you will find the Hawaii Children's Discovery Center, a venue aimed at challenging children of all ages to learn more about the world that surrounds them. Kakaako is also the home of the University of Hawaii Manoa John A. Burns School of Medicine, which is a recent edition to the area, and has a cafeteria named Cafe Kulia; here you will find food served that was made by students of the Kapiolani Community college. Each Monday the County's People's Open Market, located at Mother Waldron Park, gives residents the change to buy agricultural items for around 35% less than the average retail price.
