Kalihi is a residential area where it’s jurisdiction covers up into the Krevices of Kalihi Valley down to the stretch of the commercial area near Kapalama. Consisting of a medium-priced older houses and old apartment buildings, Kalihi shares its space with various commercial and industrial business.

The Kamehameha Shopping Center is where the major activities happen for Kalihi residents. Located in the shopping center are Longs Drugstore and Star Market, which is where locals get their daily necessities. This is also the place where residents can choice from a variety of restaurants and fast-food chains. Recently opened WalGreens is located across the shopping center just right after the historical, torn down Kamehameha Bowling Alley.

Families living in Kalihi can do various activites in the district’s open space parks. They can also visit the Bishop Museum, which preservers the traditional Hawaiian artifacts and cultural pastimes.

Kalihi also has a health center, Kalihi-Palana Health Center. The center is an affordable, full service clinic, which seeks to provide the community’s health needs and concerns. The clinic also promotes several educational and awareness programs for the locals of Kalihi.

Under the Farrington Complex school district, you would Kapalama. The district includes eight elementary schools, Kalakaua and Dole Intermediates, and Farrington High School. The ground of the Farrington High School is shared wi th Honolulu Community College.
