A small subdivision of Waianae, Maili is a small community that residents have sought to keep untouched by development as possible. Maili is one the of few places where people still farm products like vegetables, flowers and livestock. Residents pride themselves of maintaining and sustaining a community that is still deeply tied to the cultural ways of the Old Hawaii. Moreover, Maili is home to the numerous multigenerational families.

Single and multi family homes, apartment buildings and highly af fordable condominiums can be found in Waianae. Few high-end luxury homes have been allowed to develop near the coastline. The waters in Waianae still remain somewhat clean.
Waianae has several parks and open areas for the public’s recreational activities. Examples of these fields are Wai’anae Field, Waianae Regional Park, Kaupuni Neighborhood Park and Pililaau Community Park.

For the residents’ 05 grocery and shopping needs, they can go to the Waianae Mall Shopping center. There are numerous restaurants and services that are available in this area. Maili also has a Waianae cost Comprehensive Health Center, which focuses on the health services for Hawaii. Many residents of the Waianae have come to prefer the health center since it has been opened for 30 years. This is primarily because Wainae residents prefer keeping and experiencing their experience of their past heritage.
The area is part of the Waianae and Nanakuli Complex school district. The district includes six elementar y school options. Part of the school options is Waianae and Nanakuli Intermediate and High school.
