Developed in the 1960s, Makakilo is a neighborhood situated on the hillside of the Waianae Mountains. The variety of accommodation here ranges from relatively new one family houses in Royal Ridge, newly erected townhouses in Westview at Makakilo Heights, as well as a number of older and more affordable homes. There are also plenty of other parks in the area for recreational activities, such as Makakilo community Park, Makakilo Neighborhood Park, Makakilo Heights Neighborhood Park, as well as Mauka Lani Neighborhood Park. Kapolei and Makakilo have the same Kapolei Complex school district, which allows you to choose from four different elementary schools before your child is due to attend the recently constructed Kaoplei Middle School and Kapolei High School.
