Makiki Real Estate
Maikiki is known for its strong sense of community, and is situated in the centre of Honolulu - it is comprised largely of older homes and apartment buildings. Because of its convenient location in Oahu's most urban city, it is kept well maintained by the locals as well as thanks to the Hui O Maikiki; a not for profit organization made up of residents who work to rid the area of graffiti and build a tight knit atmosphere in the neighborhood. The Hawaii Nature Center, a group devoted to nature education since way back in 1981, gives guided hikes, adventures in the outdoors, as well as earth care projects during the weekends. Maikiki District Park also provides plenty of opportunities for fun outside, with a great wide open space in the middle of the busy community with its own basketball and tennis courts, a swimming pool, a skateboarding area and a playground for the local children to enjoy. There is also the Friends of Maikiki Library, another not for profit group, which operates a reading room and learning library purely for the enjoyment of residents of the area; it is a true testament to the value placed on nurturing the tight knit community here. There are many churches here too, of several different denominations; most of which provide either free or very lost cost services including senior classes, student tutoring, discussion and support groups, as well as community activities such as board games, sports and hiking. The Maikiki Shopping village also gives locals easy access to plenty of laid back eating venues, a video store, bottle shop and a small grocer. Schools here are a part of the Roosevelt district, and the prestigious private Punahou School can also be found here.
