Moiliili is a small and culturally diverse community that is comprised of friendly neighbors who place a high value on community projects, which are conducted all year round. Back at the start of development, the region housed a number of people of different ethnicities, which is why today there are so many different shops, restaurants and services available to locals with a diverse aspect to them. There are still a number of different people in the community from different cultural backgrounds, which is helped along by the number of students moving to the area to go to the University of Hawaii at Manoa, which is on the border of the town. There are plenty of businesses thriving in Moiliili, including flower shops, supermarket chains and of course many different restaurants. Locals get the majority of their groceries from the Star Market, while Asian products can be bought at the newly built Niyiya Market. The heart of community activity, the Moiliili Community Center, helps to bring locals together with plenty of culture focussed events and programs, which range from fun activities for kids and volunteer programs for teens to adult leisure classes and an elderly care service. One of the most popular programs is Japanese language classes, which provide lessons in writing, speaking and culture for children in the sixth grade and below each and every day.
