Many of the residences in Nuuanu are located within the Nuuana Valley, which experiences plenty of rain that helps to keep all of the tropical greenery in the area healthy all year round. Nuuana Valley is comprised mostly of single family houses, with a few high rise condos and apartment buildings also situated just outside the valley. Pali Highway runs though Nuuanu, meaning that residents can enjoy easy access to the H1 freeway. Because it is situated just outside of Honolulu's urban area, locals also have access to great shopping, eateries and nightlife experiences in the city, while still living in a calm suburban community. Ala Moana Shopping Center as well as the Victoria Ward Centers are only a quick trip away from most houses in the area, as well as one smaller shopping complex closer to the residential district. The Nuuanu Shopping Plaza is another smaller center with a dry cleaners, florist, as well as numerous eateries including the world famous Hungry Lion Coffeehouse.
