Punchbowl is on of the older communities in Hawaii, and is situated on the slope to one side of a crater which shares its name; it is well known as the home of the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. The residential area of Punchbowl is mostly comprised of one family dwellings with the odd apartment building mixed in, both of which let residents enjoy a cooler climate thanks to their elevation, as well as some spectacular panoramic views of the world below. Punchbowl is centered in Honolulu, meaning that locals are able to quickly get to the freeway to travel in either direction. There are also routes leading directly to the downtown area which houses the business district, as well as a post office, the State Capitol, the City Hall, as well as Oahu's second federal and state government offices. Punchbowl is also conveniently located nearby to plenty of nightlife, restaurant and shopping venues, all nicely packed together in the metro area of Honolulu. The district also sports a couple of traditional mom and pop grocery stores that are popular with the locals. The Nuuana Shopping Plaza is also a favorite with residents; a small shopping center it has its own dry cleaners, florist and plenty of quaint little restaurants; as well the famous Hungry Lion Coffeehouse. As part of the Roosevelt school district, Punchbowl children attend either Lincoln or Pauoa Elementary before Kawananakoa or Stevensen Middle School, and then finally Roosevelt High School.
