Salt Lake Real Estate

The Salt Lake residential area is made up of high rise condos, mid rise townhouses and older homes which were erected during the construction boom that occurred in the 1960s. The more suburban area is often known as the Aliamanu because it is situated close to a crater which shares the same name. However, the name the "Salt Lake" comes from the area where the crater is actually located, named Alia Pa'akai, or "salt pond". It is a very green neighborhood with a whole plethora of parks, but also has plenty of urban homes available. The largest park in the community is the Salt Lake District Park, and it has several hiking paths which lead up and around the crater. This park also has tennis and basketball courts, sports fields and a gym, as well as a 50 meter long swimming pool. On Sunday mornings if you head over to Salt Lake Municipal Park you will find the People's Market bustling with life; this market allows locals to buy agricultural produce straight from local businesses and save money in the process. If it is retail therapy that you are after you should definitely head on down to the centre of the commercial district, as the Salt Lake Shopping Center can be found here; it has plenty of well known and popular stores including Mcdonalds, Safeway and Longs Drugstore as well as a wealth of smaller local stores such as bakeries and news agencies. Salt Lake also boasts one of the greatest public schools in Oahu, the Moanalua High School; it first opened in 1972 to accommodate for the growing education requirements of the Salt Lake locals, and since then has gained respect and admiration for its high academic standards - it once had the honor of being referred to as "the private school of public schools" by a Honolulu newspaper.
